The Wizard of Boz Returns

Not more than a week ago, Chris Boswell suffered a concussion at the hands of the Cleveland Browns caused by helmet-to-helmet contact. In that time, he cleared concussion protocol and missed no playing time as a result of the injury. He then proceeded to have one of the biggest games in his career. Chris Boswell became only the 31st placekicker to recover a fumble in the history of the NFL and only the 2nd in Steelers history. The last Steelers placekicker to recover a fumble was Kris Brown on 9/9/2001 in Jacksonville’s 3-21 loss. It was also Boswell’s second game-winning field goal this season, his third since 2019, and his 9th game-winning field goal in his career.

Despite that milestone, he broke another Heinz field kicking record; he is the first placekicker to have two field goals in one game exceeding 52 yards. The other field goal was longer at 55 yards. With that, he still holds the record for the longest field goal in Steelers’ history on the road at Dallas with a  59-yarder when he surpassed the 57-yard record held by Gary Anderson from 1988 and Gene Mingo from 1970. Boswell also owns the record at Heinz field with 56.
