The Pittsburgh Steelers hosted the Detriot Lions in Week 10 in what was an absolute slop-fest. Here are my four biggest takeaways from the game.

Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has been quite underwhelming for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2021. However, his struggles this year look mild compared to what we saw with Mason Rudolph at the helm against the Detroit Lions in Week 10.

Many fans were optimistic that a younger, fresher quarterback with more arm talent at this point in his career could give his team a boost against the league’s only winless team. That, however, didn’t prove to be the case.

This was really a disgusting performance all around by the Steelers that was hard to stomach. Here are my four biggest takeaways from Pittsburgh’s 16-16 overtime tie against the Lions:

Mason Rudolph was incredibly underwhelming

I went on record before the game saying that Mason Rudolph was entering no-win territory. If he defeated the Lions, well, they were an 0-8 football team. If he performed poorly, people were going to be booing him out of the stadium. This turned out to be the case, but Rudolph was even worse than I expected.’

After a promising opening drive touchdown, Rudolph’s offense scored just 9 points for the remainder of the game. On 50 pass attempts, he completed 30 passes for just 4.8 yards per attempt. The Steelers backup quarterback also chipped in an interception and a few other questionable passes that could have been picked.

Putting up 16 points against a Lions defense that allows over 30 points per game really isn’t acceptable — no matter what the circumstances. I know Rudolph’s supporting cast didn’t perform well in Week 10, but he had way too many missed opportunities against a bad football team.
