Carson Strong , Nevada

He is probably the most prototypical quarterback coming out in the 2022 draft. He is also 6’4” and 215lbs. So he’s about as big as Ben, so for that reason, alone teams needing a quarterback will look at him. Like others,  he either goes early in the first round or stays on the board until late or after the first round. Strong plays for Nevada, the same conference Josh Allen played— another huge positive.

His other traits include his throwing motion which allows him to zip the ball. He trows with anticipation and displays nice patience and decisiveness. He has good footwork and can freeze the linebacker with his eyes at times. He also knows when to throw the ball away instead of taking the unnecessary sack

While it’s not a negative, Strong is not a mobile quarterback; he is a pocket passer more like Peyton Manning or Dan Marino. His negatives include trying to force the ball under pressure and not detecting the blindside pressure at times. He also tends to fade when he throws, and his accuracy is a bit for fans to desire.

Carson could be an excellent choice to take over for Big Ben. In some ways, Strong could be a lot like Mac Jones in that he could be the most complete quarterback of the draft. Nabbing Strong will be determined by the Steelers’ draft position and whether as many teams opt for quarterbacks in 2022 as they did in 2021.
