It is time to let go of the pre-draft grade they had on Rudolph

I can’t hear the phrase “Interesting thing about Rudolph, the Steelers said they had him graded as a 1st rounder” one more time, or I’ll explode. Mason Rudolph is a decent backup. The odds were stacked against him in this game. He didn’t have a full 2 days to prepare for this matchup. However, this was probably the worst team in the league that Rudolph just fought tooth and nail to tie.

I like Rudolph, he has guts and plays his heart out. There is nothing I saw from him in Week 10 that says he has a future starting in the league for any team. He is wildly inconsistent in terms of reading defenses and throwing the ball accurately. He was putting way too much air under his short-intermediate throws. This was one of the better games the offensive line has played this year and Rudolph could do nothing with it. Multiple pressures generated by the Lions were a result of Rudolph holding the ball for way too long.

When Rudolph did make the right read he often just missed. The Lions should’ve had 3 interceptions, that I saw, not counting the one taken away on the first drive by pass interference. I hate to say it but the Steelers were just wrong in the pre-draft process with him. Pittsburgh typically drafts well, but you’re bound to miss on some guys. Rudolph’s name shouldn’t be involved in their conversation about who to turn to when Ben retires after this game. He has officially run out of chances.
