Bad refereeing

Why shouldn’t officials miss these calls or get them wrong? They are too important to the outcome of a game and are needed to protect the players. Also, the number of officials that miss them is always a point of contention, and it seems that each year with all the rule updates, the referees do a poor job of enforcing them. If they did, this would not get brought up in blogs or on NFL Radio.

So, it leads to one obvious conclusion the NFL needs to do something. They need to make changes especially refereeing changes, to help mitigate the mistakes the officials do make. No matter what they do, there will still be a blown call now and then, yet the NFL does have the power to make changes that will minimize the referees’ mistakes and allow the players to determine the outcome of games rather than the poor calls.

While not perfect solutions, there are some different things the NFL could do which would help. They are not all the possible options, but they are starting points that owners should discuss during the offseason. If there are other options, they should consider them as well. One example was adding the sky judge discussed after the 2020 season, which they discussed and ultimately rejected. They should bring it back for discussion at the end of this season. So what are the possible options?
