Phillip Lindsay is a perfect fit for this roster

Phillip Lindsay isn’t your typical Steelers’ running back. He is 5’8 and 190 pounds per Pro Football Reference. However, he is a faster one-cut type back that would provide the perfect change of pace from Najee Harris. Harris is a big powerful runner that is fantastic at breaking tackles and is a force in the RedZone. Lindsay’s skill set is a perfect compliment to Harris’ and more importantly, can add another dimension to the run/passing game.

Harris can’t be expected to churn out 30+ yard runs every game. His large frame and lack of barn-burning speed are going to make those runs few and far between. Harris’ yards are all dependent on his ability to break tackles as of now, and he doesn’t have the acceleration to break 2 tackles and then break off 20 more yards. He is a great player, but without a good enough offensive line, he isn’t going to be a homerun hitter yet.

Lindsay has the ability to make one cut and go. He is very fast and he loves to run north and south. He would give the Steelers the type of threat that can take a well-timed screen on their own side of the field to the house. I can’t say Harris has the wheels to do that, but Lindsay does.

The Steelers need another player who can make those big energy-generating plays. Harris and Freirmuth are the only two that seem to consistently be able to get the offense going and generate momentum. Lindsay would be the 3rd best player on that offense the moment he signed the contract and can help provide that as well.
