Steelers may not give him enough time to turn his career around

The Pittsburgh Steelers have been loyal to a fault with their high investments. They started Jarvis Jones over a four-year span when he was healthy, and they gave Artie Burns far too long to try to turn things around. While Devin Bush will have opportunities in the near future, they could be running out faster than we initially expected.

This isn’t to say that the Steelers are going to up and replace him with another low-quality option like Robert Spillane, but he could be on thin ice after a plethora of lackluster performances to begin the 2021 season.

The Steelers also have a very important decision to make soon. Following the 2021 season, Pittsburgh will have to decide whether or not to give Bush the fifth-year option. Based on his play, it would be hard to justify why he deserves this. The Steelers elected not to give the option to Terrell Edmunds who was coming off a pretty good season in 2020.

It seems very likely that Bush could have just one more full season to turn things around before the team moves in a different direction — and that’s assuming the Steelers don’t address linebacker in free agency or high in the draft. The clock is ticking for him to make his turnaround.

I don’t want to be pessimistic here, but it’s hard to find a lot of reason to believe that Devin Bush is going to turn things around with the Steelers. Obviously, I hope he shows ample improvement by the end of 2021, but I wouldn’t take it to the bank.
