Steelers WR Chase Claypool

Anytime a player misses multiple games due to injury it’s going to be remarkably hard for them to earn individual honors like the Pro Bowl (T.J. Watt is probably going to be the exception to that this year). At one point, Steelers WR Chase Claypool was on pace for a 1,100-yard season, but he will be very fortunate if he can come anywhere near 1,000 yards at this point.

In addition to lacking raw statistics, Claypool also has a lower catch rate and only has 1 receiving touchdown entering Week 12. In comparison, Claypool had 9 receiving scores (11 total) in his rookie season last year.

For much of the same reason that Diontae Johnson shouldn’t make the Pro Bowl this year is why we should expect to see Claypool fall short of this honor in 2021. The AFC has many receivers who are more productive and are having much better seasons overall.

I still believe that Chase Claypool has the upside to be a Pro Bowler and he’s been at the mercy of some ugly downfield targets this year. However, I can’t make a case for him this year.

The Steelers are likely to have several representatives at the Pro Bowl this year, and they certainly have a few players who are more than deserving. However, these five haven’t proved to be quite deserving of such an honor just yet, in my mind.
