The Steelers were outplayed and outcoached…again
As I have stated on numerous occasions, I am a supporter of Mike Tomlin. For the second week in a row, the Steelers were outplayed and seemingly outcoached. As I stated earlier in the discussion, we knew the Bengals wanted to establish the run game, but, yet, rather than devising a plan to stop the run, we devised a plan that gave up nearly two hundred yards on the ground.
I say that rather ‘tongue in cheek’. I know we purposely did not give up as many yards on the ground as we did, but once it became apparent that whatever the scheme was on defense to stop the run was not working, the Steelers either did not adjust, did not adjust quickly enough or could not adjust.
Whatever the reason, the inability to stop the run led to the loss against the Bengals. On the flip side, whatever the scheme was on offense was equally feckless. I don’t think it’s a stretch to say that Tomlin is responsible for the schemes on both sides of the ball.
If something is not working, it needs to be changed. Sometimes, it’s as simple as making personnel changes; Other times, it’s more complicated, meaning the changes that need to be made are changes in coordinators.
With the 2021 season now hanging in the balance, it’s time to make those more complicated changes. I am not suggesting that Tomlin fire our coordinators, but if he doesn’t do something to ‘right the ship’, those changes may be forced upon him.
