Steelers LB Joe Schobert

I think Joe Schobert has been given a pass, in many ways. Devin Bush’s atrocious play at the linebacker position has caused us to glance over the mediocrity of Schobert this year. As a former Pro Bowl linebacker, with 9 interceptions over the past three seasons, it’s safe to say that fans are disappointed in what they’ve received from Schobert this year.

While a banged-up defensive line that is constantly steamrolled doesn’t help, Schobert has been unspectacular in every phase of the game. In addition to lacking splash plays, the veteran linebacker has been average at best against the run and pass and has offered almost nothing as a blitzer this year.

If you were to just look at Schobert’s 11 tackles in the box score, you would have thought he had a solid game. However, the film would strongly suggest otherwise. Most of these tackles were coming well past the line of scrimmage and he wasn’t able to help slow down the running game one bit.

I think Joe Schobert is a pretty solid player overall, but his play has caused him to trend down over the past few weeks. Let’s hope we can get more from him moving forward.
