Steelers seventh-round pick: QB Grayson McCall

Most Steelers fans are hoping they address the quarterback position much earlier than this, but the fact of the matter is that Pittsburgh could have an entirely different plan in mind. Mike Tomlin has expressed that he doesn’t want to start over with a rookie, so perhaps the Steelers will make a play for a veteran in the 2022 offseason.

Even if Pittsburgh elects to pass on the quarterback talent earlier in the draft, that doesn’t mean they won’t select one next April. Ben Roethlisberger is almost certainly gone after this season, and Mason Rudolph is the only quarterback under contract for 2022. Though the team could bring back Dwayne Haskins or Josh Dobbs for another season, they may not have much incentive to do so.

I have them going with Grayson McCall with their final pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. McCall plays in the Sun Belt Conference for Coastal Carolina, but he’s got decent developmental traits, and with the lack of depth at the position, he could stick around as the third quarterback with a chance to become the top backup in Pittsburgh.

The Steelers have too many needs and not enough picks to address them all. It will be interesting to see what they prioritize in free agency, but I have Pittsburgh addressing some positions early that they’ve neglected for too long now.
