Steelers didn’t lack effort

I never want to have to resort to questioning the hustle and effort of players on Mike Tomlin’s team, but in some games, they just seem to be giving it everything they’ve got. This was one of them.

Pittsburgh’s offense struggled to move the ball most of the game and the Steelers managed just 3 points through the first three quarters. However, I was thrilled to see there was no quit in this team. Despite their struggles, T.J. Watt led an amped-up defense to a spectacular performance that included 7 sacks and just an 80.1 passer rating allowed against Lamar Jackson.

As a result, their offense eventually played with a different fire down the stretch as Roethlisberger, Najee Harris, Diontae Johnson, and Pat Freiermuth all stepped up to the plate when it mattered most in the fourth quarter.

There’s no doubt the Steelers knew what was at stake here, and I am encouraged to see how hard they played in order to secure a win against a pretty good football team in Week 13.

The Pittsburgh Steelers still have their work cut out for them, but fans have to be optimistic after what we just witnessed. With improved play from Ben Roethlisberger and a healthy T.J. Watt leading the defense, this team can be good enough to compete with any opponent on any given week.
