Thanks to the Justin Fields draft pick, the Bears showed him the door out of Chicago at the end of 2020. He has remained a free agent in all of 2021, so it seems dubious at best the Steelers would sign him to lead the team after a year layoff.

Teddy Bridgewater

Adding Bridgewater to the Steelers could actually work. He has played both as a starter for four different teams and has thrown for 2500 or more yards in four of his seven seasons. The question here is, do the Bronco’s like the job he’s doing, and do they want him back, and how much would Bridgewater ask for in a contract?

Jameis Winston

He is a former number one draft pick; he has played for the Buccaneers and the Saints. He didn’t play much in 2020 as he sat behind Drew Brees, then took over the reins with Brees’ retirement. Then about midseason found himself on the injured reserve list.

He is talented and still young enough to play a few years and perhaps even take the Steelers to the playoffs. It’s an outside possibility, to say the least, but would the Steelers pull the trigger?

Jacoby Brissett

He’s been more of a backup than a starter however he has put up decent numbers when called upon to play. Somehow though it’s hard to believe the Steelers would decide to make him the short-term replacement to Big Ben. One would think the Steelers might as well draft someone.

Those would be the leading contenders. Aside from them, you have Tyrod Taylor, Cam Newton, Marcus Mariota, and Joe Flacco.  Not exactly options that are thrilling or one would expect would give the Steelers a great chance to make the playoffs.
