Steelers would love to have SS Harrison Smith
Despite being 32-years old, Harrison Smith is still playing at a high level and could be of some help in the Steelers secondary. Smith can help deliver that veteran leadership amongst the young secondary and bring a pop to the defense. The long-time veteran gets a lot of tackles for someone who plays safety. He would be able to help tackle and contain the run.
Since he moved to strong safety in 2019, he has been thrown at a lot less. In the years 2019-2021, Smith has allowed a completion percentage of 63.6%, 65.6%, and 65.4%, all with 33 targets or less. He is still a ball hawk and has notched 3+ interceptions in the last four years and has been more healthy as he has aged.
With the Steelers, Smith would make tackles which the team needs more of, a better chance of creating turnovers, and brings a hardness to his play. Smith still has time left and he is showing no signs of slowing down.
At 6′ 2″ and 211 pounds, he might even be able to line up at linebacker on some occasions. The Steelers could benefit over the last few years of Harrison’s career and with what he would bring maybe it could lead to a playoff run.
