Steelers 2021 center grade

Kendrick Green

At times, Green has got knocked around out there. He’s also struggled with the basics of the center position sending a number of snaps over the head of the QB. I watched tape on Green when he was in college and he looked good but he was playing left guard. When the Steelers planned to move him to center I figured they knew they’d have to spend time developing him for that role. They apparently didn’t.

The center has to be the rock of the offensive line and I’m not sure Green has the game to pull it off. He’s also been plagued by penalties having 7 in 686 snaps for 1st Place among centers in that undesirable stat. On the good side, he’s only allowed 1 sack and his play has steadily improved as the season has gone on.

His Pro Football Focus grade is 56.9 (on a scale to 100) overall, with 57.0 in pass blocking and 57.8 run-blocking placing him 29th among 38 centers. I don’t agree that Green is as bad as his PFF score indicates but there’s still room for substantial improvement.

Grade: D+
