Steelers seventh-round pick (trade): OG Ben Brown
Nobody will be surprised if the Steelers double up on offensive lineman after the trainwreck we witnessed for much of the season this year. Trai Turner is an unrestricted free agent following the season and the team is already very thin at the position.
As a seventh-round draft choice, we can’t expect Ben Brown to become a starter. However, he has been a staple to the Ole Miss offensive line and can stick around for a while in the NFL thanks to his quality size (6’5” 315 lbs) and feel for the game.
Steelers seventh-round pick: WR Dontario Drummond
This is the first time I’ve ever mocked Ole Miss Rebels in back-to-back picks, but if the Steelers don’t take a wide receiver earlier in the draft, I would be a bit surprised if they didn’t go after one on day three.
It’s possible that Pittsburgh could be without both JuJu Smith-Schuster and James Washington next season. While the team could replace them in free agency, I also think they will use a later-round pick on a receiver. Dontario Drummond might be a day-three pick, but he’s a physical receiver who is great after the catch. He could compete for a spot to fill JuJu’s role with the team if he leaves or, at the very least, offer quality depth at the position.
The Steelers have a plethora of positions that are lacking talent at the moment, and it wouldn’t surprise me if they threw us a curveball early in the 2022 NFL Draft.
