The Steelers may experience significant turnover after the 2021 season

I realize it’s a bit premature to talk about the composition of the Steelers team in 2022 when the 2021 season has not yet ended. Regardless of how this season ends, which, I hope, is with us winning another Lombardi Trophy, there will be changes made to the roster in 2022.

The extent of those changes remains to be seen, but I suspect said changes may be a bit extreme, at least for the Steelers.  As we fans know, the Steelers are an organization that typically does not ‘go crazy’ with respect to the draft or to free agency, but that is exactly what we may see in 2022.

Let’s explore some changes that may occur on the offensive side of the ball.

The Steelers offense adds some necessary pieces along the offensive line

Because of the poor play, at times, of the current iteration of the Steelers ‘O-line’, I can absolutely see us draft no less than one offensive lineman and possibly as many as three.  I know that sounds extreme, but if you think about it, we will probably be looking for a new RG or LG and for a new RT.

If those players aren’t drafted, I can envision us being ‘players’ in the free-agent market,  something that the Steelers have not been traditionally.  Aside from the positions I just mentioned, I would not be at all surprised to see us draft a center, move Kendrick Green to LG, move Dan Moore Jr. to RT, and either sign a free agent LT or draft a LT.

We may also be in the market for a TE, WR, and possibly a QB.  If Ben Roethlisberger does, in fact, decide to retire, which I hope he does not, we will draft a QB in either the first or second round.  I do not; however, envision a scenario where a rookie QB would start.  Mason Rudolph would be the next in line to pick up the mantle and ascend to the starting role.

Let’s see what changes may occur on the defensive side of the ball.
