Steelers SS Terrell Edmunds

It’s fair to use the word ‘unspectacular’ when describing Steelers safety, Terrell Edmunds. He doesn’t come down with a lot of splash plays and most of the time you have difficultly noticing that he’s on the field. Still, there are reasons why he should earn a new contract with Pittsburgh.

For starters, there’s something to be said about continuity at the safety position. Though he doesn’t get a lot of credit, Edmunds and Minkah Fitzpatrick have great chemistry on the back end and he doesn’t give up a lot of big plays.

In addition, I really believe that Edmunds has yet to see his best years. Still just 24 years old and with great size and athletic traits, the former first-round safety still has lots of room to improve. This improvement is likely to happen once the Steelers defense gets healthier. Even Fitzpatrick didn’t have a particularly great season this year due to the circumstances, but we know he’s a great player.

It’s also important to consider that, if Pittsburgh lets Edmunds walk in free agency, that’s one more hole the team must fill with limited draft capital. All signs seem to point that it would be beneficial to keep Edmunds around for the foreseeable future.

The Steelers have some really big decisions they must make when choosing how to invest their money in the 2022 offseason, but these three players have done enough so far to earn a new deal with the team next year.
