2. Chris Godwin could help Steelers passing attack

Something else important to a young quarterback is a no. 1 wide receiver, something Pittsburgh won’t have on the roster entering the offseason. That is partly why the Steelers passing game has not been what it once was. That can change this offseason, as a number of talented receivers are set to hit the market.

One of those receivers is Chris Godwin, the five-year veteran who has spent his entire career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. While it’s obvious they have a good thing going in Tampa, the salary cap will eventually force some players out. Godwin is currently playing on the one-year franchise tag.

When he enters free agency at the end of the year, he will likely explore returning to the Bucs, but will also want to be compensated as a top receiver— both may not be likely. That is where the Steelers should step in and offer Godwin a contract he is looking for.

Godwin coming to Pittsburgh will provide the team with a no. 1 receiver and go-to guy in the passing attack— something that has been missing since Godwin’s current teammate departed. Godwin can become the security blanket to whatever young quarterback the Steelers move on to.
