Scenario 5

This scenario is where things get painful for Pittsburgh. Assuming the Steelers lose to the Chiefs and the Browns and beat the Ravens. Their chances are almost nil. For starters, the Browns would need to lose their final game. In conjunction with A Dolphins loss to the Titans Week 17 and  Colts loss week 18.

The Bills would have to lose their last three games as well, and even one win gives Buffalo a better record than the Steelers. The Dolphins become a threat in this scenario as well. The Dolphins would have to lose at least two of their last three games too.

Needless to say, if this one occurs, the Steelers need the most help to get in, and the odds they squeak in are tough.

Scenario 6

In this scenario, Pittsburgh loses their last three games. If this should occur, well, it’s the end of the 2021 season for Pittsburgh; they finish last in the AFC North, and Mike Tomlin has his first losing season as the Steelers head coach. Given the way they have played this year, while not great, they may at least be able to avoid getting to this point.

That said if Pittsburgh does get to scenario six, while they do not make the playoffs, at least the Steelers get a top-15 draft choice headed into 2022. If you want the black and gold to rebuild, perhaps it’s not the worst outcome. But you had dreams of another playoff run; you had better hope the Steelers start by knocking off Kansas City this weekend.
