Steelers are in no position to simply ‘reload’

You’ll hear it said: “Steelers don’t rebuild, they reload.” While this philosophy may have worked in the past, Pittsburgh is far from a position where they can simply ‘reload’ right now. Like last year, the Steelers could have a lot of turnover on their roster this year, and we already talked about the talent they are lacking.

When Pittsburgh was a legitimate Super Bowl contender, they could afford to throw what little money they had at veteran players who could step and be a temporary solution to a long-term problem. This is no longer the case.

Gone are the days when the Steelers can simply throw a band-aid over their wounds and call it good. This team has some serious issues that run all the way to the core. With so many needs to fill and not enough talent to stay competitive, Pittsburgh doesn’t need to ‘reload,’ they need a true rebuild.

I’ve been pushing for the Steelers to rebuild over the past few seasons, and I can’t say that I’m surprised with the way that things have worked out this year. Too many poor draft choices and bad financial moves have put them in this predicament. Now it’s time to bite the bullet and commit to a rebuild in 2022.
