Steelers second-round pick: QB Carson Strong

Let it be known that this is a pick I would not be okay with for the Pittsburgh Steelers… at least not at this point in time. I’m not a big Carson Strong fan as his concerning lack of mobility and makes him a statue in the pocket. However, if Strong is still on the board in the second round, Kevin Colbert and Mike Tomlin could be tempted to go this direction.

While Tomlin has been adamant about emphasizing mobility at the quarterback position, he clearly neglected this when he drafted Mason Rudolph and brought in Dwayne Haskins this past offseason. If the price is right and the need is big enough, perhaps the Steelers can overlook this trait.

What Strong does offer is a cannon of an arm that can cut through any type of football weather and the ability to drop the ball in a bucket deep down the field. As a second-round pick, expectations wouldn’t be quite so lofty, and Strong could push Mason Rudolph — who is currently the only QB under contract in Pittsburgh next year.

I don’t view Strong as a long-term starting NFL quarterback, but the Steelers know how important the position is, and they might be willing to take a chance on strong, who is the last remaining viable QB option in the 2022 NFL Draft at this point.
