Steelers lacking a future starting offensive tackle

The 2021 NFL Draft could turn out to be a pretty good one for the Steelers — at least compared to what they’ve done over the past few years. Pittsburgh got their starting running back with Najee Harris and their long-time tight end in Pat Freiermuth.

They are also hoping they have their starting left tackle for the future in Dan Moore. While Moore possesses prototype size, length, and movement skills for the position, there’s no guarantee that he’s going to progress at the rate the team needs him to in order to become a long-time starter in Pittsburgh.

Even if he does, the Steelers will need someone opposite of him to help keep the next franchise quarterback upright and help out in the run game. Chukwuma Okorafor is still young, but he’s a free agent in 2022, and he hasn’t done nearly enough to warrant a big, new deal. Likewise, the team clearly isn’t as high on Zach Banner as we thought.

In today’s passing league, the Steelers desperately need another quality offensive tackle who we can count on for the next 8-10 years.

There are plenty of other needs Pittsburgh currently has, but these are some of the most important positions in football. The Steelers must do everything in their power to address these as soon as possible.
