5 biggest positions of need for Steelers in the 2022 NFL Draft
By Tommy Jaggi
The Pittsburgh Steelers have a plethora of needs that must be filled, but here are the five positions they must focus on in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Pittsburgh’s weaknesses were on full display in 2021 and we are hoping the new year comes with more talent at a variety of positions. While things didn’t quite go according to plan this season, Steelers fans can look forward to the fact that this team will have over $43 million in cap space next season.
Much of this will be used to re-sign players and perhaps fill a few big holes in free agency. However, Pittsburgh will rely heavily on the 2022 NFL Draft to restock their talent next season. As of now, here are their five biggest positional needs for the Steelers as we start to look ahead to next year’s draft:
5. Steelers need a linebacker
With the way that Pittsburgh’s linebacker’s played this season, it’s clear that something needs to change. While losing Stephon Tuitt and Tyson Alualu for the season no doubt impacted this group when it comes to getting off blocks and making stops in the run game, there’s no excuse for their lousiness in pass coverage.
Keith Butler is going to give Devin Bush more time — considering he was such a sizeable investment in the draft and the fact that he is still developing and getting back to full strength. However, the Joe Schobert experiment could be over with.
Though Schobert has a sizeable contract, Pittsburgh can actually get out of it this coming offseason with a limited cap hit and a ton of money saved, via Over the Cap. This isn’t the biggest priority due to all of their other needs, but it’s something the Steelers will look at in the 2022 NFL Draft.
