1. Steelers must pursue J.C. Jackson

J.C. Jackson, the former teammate of Gilmore, initially grew to prominence making splash plays as the corner across from Gilmore. Now with Gilmore gone, Jackson has stepped into the role of the Patriots No. 1 corner and he has been impressive.

In 2020, he was second in the NFL with nine interceptions and would have loved to use that as a bargaining chip but New England tagged him. Following this season, Jackson will be an unrestricted free agent and has possibly made himself even more money.

The fourth-year corner is having a career year and has already amassed five interceptions and a league-high 12 pass deflections in nine games, making him one of the hottest free agents that will hit the market this spring.

He will have a large asking price, but the Steelers must make a pitch. Jackson is still earlier in his career, can defend well, and force turnovers. He’s everything you can ask for in a corner and everything the Steelers need.

The Steelers first priority will be finishing this season strong, but free-agency will be here sooner than later. Pittsburgh must prepare to aggressively pursue these elite corners.
