Steelers should add Njoku

The Steelers clearly have their tight end of the future in Pat Freiermuth, as the rookie has been one of the most impressive rookies so far in 2021. That said, the depth behind him is very much in question. Eric Ebron is almost certainly gone and while Zach Gentry has made some strides as a blocker, he is best served in a reserve role. This means adding a solid pass-catching veteran could make this team even more dynamic.

David Njoku has had a career resurgence this season with the Browns. Despite the team having a plethora of capable tight ends, Njoku has been a stable presence for this offense. He has flashed in the red zone and has been a great safety net for the Browns quarterbacks. While not his strong suit, Njoku has also developed into an average blocker in space, meaning the Steelers could use him with their other tight ends in the running game.

With the team likely to see some turnover at receiver and a new quarterback will be leading this offense in 2022, having a crew of reliable tight ends would be beneficial for whoever is throwing the ball. While Njoku may not be thrilled with a backup role, he should be seeing the team’s desire to use multiple tight ends this season. He would have a good role with the Steelers, and it would make the offense that much more dynamic.
