ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Giants are ‘shutting down Daniel Jones for the rest of the year.’ While Jones won’t need surgery to address his neck strain, New York is going to err on the side of caution.

However, there has been much speculation that Jones may not even be the starting quarterback for this team next season as the Giants could explore better options. Over the past two seasons, Jones has thrown for just 21 touchdowns and 17 interceptions, while owning a dismal career record of 12-25 as a starting quarterback, via Pro Football Reference.

New York may elect to start from the ground up with a rookie, but they could use a bridge quarterback to guide this team until then. While Ben Roethlisberger probably isn’t going to be taking the Giants to the Super Bowl, this team desperately needs to try something in order to at least be competitive again.

Sadly, the Giants don’t have cap space to spare, and like Washington does, and their management is a mess. However, they are still a team that could potentially offer Roethlisberger a starting job if they decide to move on from Daniel Jones.
