The Pittsburgh Steelers are entering a new era in 2022 with this likely being Ben Roethlisberger‘s last season. With the new era should come a “new year, new team” attitude.

The Steelers have had 18 years of continuity at the quarterback position with Big Ben. With this most likely being his final season, the front office needs to take a hard look at the roster and make adjustments that give them the best chance to avoid spiraling into a perennial top-10 pick team.

Pittsburgh is quickly approaching the first of many important offseasons to come in what will be a rebuild. It is hard to imagine the Steelers being in the midst of one but the roster is not a deep, quality roster and needs to be developed to fit a new offense.

There are many holes on the current roster and they will have the cap space to help find veterans to fill some of those holes. Their draft capital isn’t as good as you would hope it would be going into such an important offseason but they will have to make the most of the upcoming draft.

The team has players it can build around on both sides of the ball at some key positions like T.J. Watt, Minkah Fitzpatrick, Najee Harris, and Diontae Johnson to name a few. They should recognize the players they can build on and support them with quality depth and a good supporting cast.

With the cap going up, it may be best to find some veteran players to fill a couple of starting roles to provide leadership to an otherwise young team. With the departure of Roethlisberger, the team is losing its longest-tenured player and one of, if not, the biggest leaders on the roster.

The Steelers should focus on three resolutions to ring in the new era in Pittsburgh. They must adhere to these resolutions and start the rebuild off on the right foot to catch up to the rest of the AFC North.
