Steelers resolution #2: Find a new offensive identity

The offense has struggled mightily in 2020 and 2021 for multiple reasons. Many have chosen to place all that blame on Matt Canada and his playcalling.

Blaming Canada has been extremely warranted, as many calls this season have been very head-scratching like the fourth down toss play in the blowout loss to the Chiefs.

Whether it is that Canada just is not fit to be an NFL coordinator or he feels like he can’t call his game due to Ben not fitting his style of offense, the Steelers must figure out if he can run a competent offense if given the QB he needs as well as a trustworthy offensive line.

If Canada is not the guy, they need to move on quickly so a new guy can come in and bring new life into a new offense early in the offseason. You can add all the right players for one offense but nothing matters if the coordinator you hire has a different offensive arsenal and the roster you have to run the offense doesn’t fit what they want to do.

This isn’t to say Canada is a guy that can get the job done because we have all seen some questionable game plans and play calls from him. If he needs players to fit what he wants to do, the Steelers could sign him to a one-year, prove yourself deal and give him what he needs but they have to be careful to not set themselves back and have to rebuild again in a few seasons.
