5 best Ben Roethlisberger moments for Steelers inside Heinz Field
4. Week 8, 2004 vs New England
The Patriots were riding a 21-game winning streak when they came to Heinz Field on Halloween in 2004. The Steelers were 5-1 and had won their previous four games with a certain rookie out of Miami of Ohio under center.
New England was undefeated at 6-0, and many expected a close game that would come down to the wire- that’s not what we were treated to.
Instead, the Steelers dominated the Patriots for an entire evening. After an Adam Vinatieri field goal, Ben Roethlisberger threw two touchdowns to Plaxico Burress in the first quarter, including a 47-yard bomb. After the second of Burress’ touchdowns, Tom Brady threw a pick-six to Deshea Townsend with 13 seconds remaining in the opening stanza of the game, putting the Steelers up 21-3. The Steelers added on two Jeff Reed field goals and a Jerome Bettis touchdown run to cap off a 34-20 victory over the defending Super Bowl champions.
Roethlisberger went 18-for-24 with 196 yards and two touchdowns. While he had played well in his prior four starts, this was his biggest win to date, and a true statement that he was going to be around for a long time.
