5 best Ben Roethlisberger moments for Steelers inside Heinz Field
3. 2011 AFC Divisional Round vs Baltimore
Spoiler alert: Big Ben beating the Ravens is going to be a theme for the remainder of the list.
The Steelers had clinched the No. 2 seed in the AFC playoff picture in 2010, and their first test was a third matchup with the Baltimore Ravens. The Steelers took an early lead with a Rashard Mendenhall touchdown run, largely set up by a 20-yard pass from Ben to Mike Wallace.
The Ravens scored on the ensuing drive with a Ray Rice touchdown, and then a Steelers fumble was returned for a touchdown by Cory Redding. Joe Flacco then threw a touchdown to Todd Heap and just like that, the Ravens had scored 21 unanswered points. Roethlisberger threw a touchdown to Heath Miller in the third quarter to cut the lead to 21-14, and then Hines Ward tied the game with a touchdown reception just before the fourth quarter.
Both teams enhanced field goals to make it a 24-24 game before Big Ben and Pittsburgh got the ball back. After being sacked on first down and an incomplete pass on second, Ben uncorked a missile down the right sideline to Antonio Brown for a 58-yard completion on third down and 19.
This set up Pittsburgh inside the Baltimore five-yard line where Mendenhall scored the game-winning touchdown. The throw to Brown is easily a top-five throw of Ben’s career, and it paved the way for a third Super Bowl appearance in five years for Roethlisberger and the Steelers.
