Steelers struggle to stop Freeman

The Ravens have to be commended for still having a potent rushing offense despite suffering injuries to almost their entire stable of running backs. Devonta Freeman has been tasked with carrying the starting load, and while his age certainly shows, he is also having his best season since 2017. The Ravens haven’t lost their identity despite losing some integral pieces to their offensive backfield.

What helps is having an equally potent scrambling quarterback to contain on any given play. Lamar Jackson is the best rushing quarterback in the league while Tyler Huntley is also extremely mobile in his own right. The Steelers have historically done a good job of containing the Ravens quarterback from scrambling, but it usually comes at the cost of ignoring the running back.

This happened in week 13, as the Steelers limited Jackson 55 yards on the ground but allowed Freeman to post nearly 100 total yards and a score on the day. Even with the run defense doing slightly better in recent weeks, one has to imagine Freeman will find similar success. I expect much of the same from week 13, as the Ravens still find success on the ground with Freeman posting a solid rushing performance.
