Steelers losers: the linebackers
It is no secret that the Steelers have had some hot and cold play from their outside linebackers this season. Joe Schobert has been the more consistent of the starting two, but he has failed to make much of an impact. Meanwhile, both Devin Bush and Robert Spillane were terrible this week, and the results against the Ravens weren’t pretty.
The Ravens ran for over 200 total yards this week, with Latavius Murray going for 150 while Tyler Huntley added 72 himself. Gaps weren’t being filled and it seemed like the trio of linebackers were constantly missing their assignments and reads. In a game as slow-moving as this, being able to run successfully is key.
With the playoffs now underway, this group has to get better. That may mean mixing in some Marcus Allen, as he seemed to play better than the starters did when he was given his chance. As well, Miles Killibrew could see more snaps in that hybrid role. Once again, this group was a weak spot on the roster and almost cost the Steelers the win.
