Mitch Trubisky, Bills
Mitch Trubisky is another player I can see the Steelers having a lot of interest in this offseason. In addition to being the former 2nd overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, Trubisky has all the traits Tomlin typically looks for in a quarterback.
At 6’2” and 220, Trubisky has good size but is very mobile at the quarterback position with the ability to escape the pocket or tuck the ball and run when necessary. Despite his tarnished reputation after not cutting it with the Bears, Trubisky still has a career record of 29-21 while throwing for 64 touchdowns and 38 interceptions since entering the league, via Pro Football Reference.
Much of the reasons for Trubisky’s struggles can be attributed to playing with some lackluster talent on offense during his early years. However, he did make a Pro Bowl in 2018 for his 24 touchdowns, 12 interception seasons in which he led Chicago to a record of 11-3 in 14 games.
At 27 years old, Trubisky is nearly the same age as Baker Mayfield but has gotten far less opportunity to prove himself. The talent is all there, and while the Steelers shouldn’t expect him to completely turn his career around, he could be good enough to make this team competitive in 2022.
