The Steelers overcame a double-digit deficit at home to beat the Cleveland Browns
So I don’t think it’s a coincidence that what I believe are the most insane Wild Card games in which we have played were played against our Division rivals. This particular game pitted us against the Cleveland Browns.
While I was watching the Browns jump put to a twenty-four to seven lead, I couldn’t help but think this: Are we really going to lose a playoff game at home to the Browns? Is the season really going to end this way? How could this be happening?
What I remember about the 2002 Steelers season is that it was, at times, an ‘up and down’ season that featured a tie, which was something of an anomaly. What I also remember about that season is that Tommy Maddox threw ‘a ton’ of INTs, sixteen to be exact.
He threw two INTs in the Wild Card game against the Browns, but he also threw three TDs. I think the most insane aspect of that game was this: We were down at one point by seventeen points, then again by twelve points. Frankly, our comeback was not a foregone conclusion, but we pulled it out in the end.
Let’s move on to the second most insane Wild Card game.
