Steelers WR Diontae Johnson

Diontae Johnson was one of the lone bright spots on an otherwise bad offense this year. After a very inconsistent 2020 season in which he led the NFL in dropped passes, Johnson bounced back with the best campaign of his NFL career so far — catching 107 passes for 1,161 yards and 8 touchdowns while being credited with just 5 drops.

Unfortunately, Johnson picked the wrong time for a setback. Over the past few weeks, the shifty wide receiver has struggled with consistency catching the football. He had back-to-back big drops against the Browns and Ravens to close out the season, and his issues didn’t end there.

Diontae dropped two key passes that could have helped keep the chains moving on a stagnant Steelers offense against the Chiefs in the Wild Card round. With his fellow receivers struggling around him, Johnson couldn’t step up to the plate like he normally does.

After catching 5 passes for 34 yards on 10 targets against Kansas City in the playoffs and dropping two passes, Johnson’s final performance of the season was a very poor one that leaves a bitter taste in our mouths. Let’s hope he doesn’t hang his head on this one but comes back much stronger to open the 2022 season.
