Steelers vs. Patriots – AFC Championship Game – 2017

Butler’s incompetence was first glaringly obvious in the 2017 AFC Championship game against the Patriots. There he made WR4, Chris Hogan, look like the second coming of Jerry Rice. Hogan caught 9 passes for 188 yards and scored 2 TDS

The first adjustment Butler could’ve made is to stop calling the Cover 2 – Zone Under. It was like pitch and catch for Brady and Hogan. The second is he could’ve changed personnel and put someone else on Hogan. The third could’ve been double coverage. He could’ve done all of the above and you might have some I missed. Butler did none of this. He just sat on the sideline watching pass after pass being caught while the Steelers 2017 season ended. The Patriots offense destroyed the Steelers Defense handing them a humiliating 36 to 17 loss.

This was the first time it was clear Butler couldn’t or wouldn’t make adjustments once his game plan had gone sour. I think everyone in Steeler Nation thought something would come out of halftime and an adjustment would be made. That never happened.
