5 potential replacements for Steelers OT Chukwuma Okorafor
By Tommy Jaggi
Kenyon Green, Texas A&M
If the Steelers don’t decide to spend big on a seasoned veteran in free agency, it’s possible that this is the year the team finally takes an offensive tackle in the first round. This has been a long time coming, and Pittsburgh hasn’t done so since taking Jermaine Stephens in 1996.
Kenyon Green (no relation to Kendrick Green) is one of the best offensive tackles in college football and is considered by many to be a mid-to-late first-round pick in the upcoming 2022 NFL Draft. At 6’4” and 325 pounds, some draft analysts view Green’s position at guard or right tackle in the NFL — which is exactly what the Steelers could use.
The Steelers are going to fall in love with the fact that Green is a former five-star recruit and is entering the draft as a true junior at just 20 years old. They will also love his physicality and ability to move defenders off the ball.
Green is scheme versatile and can slide right in as a perfect fit in Matt Canada’s offense. With at least two (and potentially more) offensive tackles slated to go ahead of where Pittsburgh will be picking in the NFL Draft, Kenyon Green could fall to them in the first round. He would be an instant upgrade over Okorafor for the Steelers.
