Joe Haeg, Steelers

I hate to even throw this out there, but I think there’s a chance the Steelers could be content with Joe Haeg at right tackle next season if/when Chukwuma Okorafror leaves via free agency. Pittsburgh showed that they clearly favor Haeg over Zach Banner, as it was Haeg who routinely filled in for injured players along the offensive line this season while Banner watched from the sidelines.

To be honest, Haeg had a respectable season, and he was hardly the reason the team struggled so mightily when it came to both pass protection and run blocking. Haeg logged 304 snaps during the regular season as a backup but also has starting experience prior to his time in Pittsburgh.

Though he will turn 29 years old during the offseason, Pittsburgh could view him as a short-term option at right tackle until they find a more permanent replacement — especially if they have no intention of spending elite draft capital on offensive tackle this year.

I would love to see an improvement at the offensive tackle position for the Steelers in 2022, but Haeg will probably give you more or less the same quality of play we saw from Okorafor over the past two seasons.

Whether you agree with it or not, there’s probably going to be a team out there that is willing to pay more money for Chukwuma Okorafor than what the Steelers will want to keep him around for. These five offensive tackles seem like realistic options if indeed Okorafor does depart this offseason.
