The Steelers are set at running back with Najee Harris as the starter but some of these backs in the 2022 draft class are great players.

The Pittsburgh Steelers might not be in the market for a starter at running back with their star Najee Harris on the roster. He had an impressive rookie season that saw him put up solid numbers despite playing behind one of the worst offensive lines in football. He was able to make plays on his own accord and that will keep him in the good graces of this team and its fans for a long time.

One thing the black and gold could use is a reliable backup or situational player that can step in when Harris needs a break, This would not be a high round selection in this draft but it could be addressed in the later rounds. Another option could be focusing on adding someone in free agency on a cheaper deal.

This draft class seems to be a decent group but none that stand alone to get picked in the first round. Most will be day two selections that could advance to early day three into the later rounds. Even though some of these players piled up monumental stats, they will likely get taken later after teams addressed more pressing needs. The Steelers might not need a running back early on but they could use one to compliment Harris at some point during the event.

Honorable mentions

Jerome Ford, RB, Cincinnati

Jerome Ford transferred to Cincinnati from Alabama after not getting much playing time with the Crimson Tide. He played his past two seasons as a BearCat and that paid dividends for his career. He is smaller in stature but he has a quick burst that helps his game.

He is also a Junior coming out of college and that is another benefit to his draft stock as well. 2021 was kind to this player as he put up monster numbers totaling over 1,300 rushing yards and 19 rushing touchdowns. He was able to make a nice resume but he will likely still go at some point in the late third round or potentially early on day three at this time in the draft process.

Breece Hall, RB, Iowa State

Breece Hall almost cut the top three but he is still one of the best backs in this class. It will come down to what a specific team is looking for in their running back they want when it comes to the order they select these players.

Hall might have one of the most consistent resumes during his collegiate career as he enters the draft as a Junior. He is a big runner with some quick feet. He has grown his game into a more complete style by putting up some impressive numbers in the receiving portion of his game along with his rushing stats.
