1. Sam Howell

People will look at Howell’s sub-par 2021 season and say he isn’t the best quarterback in this class, but context is needed. Howell was sacked a ton during the 2021 season. Plus, two of his top playmakers, Michael Carter and Javonte Williams, left for the NFL.

Even with a ton of factors working against him, Howell still put up respectable numbers. They won’t blow anyone out of the water, but he finished with over 3,000 yards and 24 touchdowns. Those are both down from 2020, as is his 154.2 passer rating, but Howell is still the most pro-ready out of all the quarterbacks in this class.

Like Zappe, his size will raise some concern. His 6-foot-1, 220-pound frame gives him a lot of similarities to Baker Mayfield. He is a very good downfield thrower of the football, and his accuracy is arguably his best quality. He is a solid decision-maker.

The stats may say that he threw more interceptions than the average star quarterback who declares for the draft, but many of those came in the loss at Virginia Tech. He has a lot of grit, a quick release, and the capability of being a long-term starter in the NFL. Everyone is infatuated with Kenny Pickett, but don’t let one year overshadow both guys’ complete bodies of work- Howell is the better quarterback.
