Steelers mock draft: Pittsburgh takes a balanced approach in 2022

Steelers mock draft round 7 (via Jets): OT Luke Tenuta
It would be a huge win for the Steelers to be able to land a player like Luke Tenuta with the first of their seventh-round picks, and chances are he could end up going earlier. At 6’9” and 322 pounds, Tenuta has the desired size teams look for in a developmental tackle and the redshirt junior shows some promising traits that can help him stick around at the next level.
The Steelers might have one quality option at offensive tackle in Dan Moore (if he pans out), but Chukwuma Okorafor is an unrestricted free agent, and I don’t expect him to return. Even if the team addresses OT in free agency, they still might want a developmental option in the NFL Draft.
If the Steelers are looking for a wide receiver who could potentially help replace JuJu Smith-Schuster in the slot, Dontario Drummond just makes too much sense to pass up with their final pick. While he’s certainly not the most gifted wide receiver (hence his late-round draft status), he’s extremely tough with the ability to run after the catch.
I’ve watched a lot of Drummond film so far, and he looks a little JuJu-lite. Despite potentially being a late-round pick, he’s got the toughness to stick around and could help on special teams as well as give Pittsburgh an option that can play both on the outside and in the slot.
I wouldn’t be terribly upset if the Steelers 2022 draft played out like this, and I think each of these candidates is within the realm of possibility. I’ll be sure to bring you more mock drafts as we progress throughout the offseason.
