Steelers have met with Sam Howell

There was a rumor during the 2021 college football season that the Steelers would be more likely to draft Sam Howell than local product, Kenny Pickett. Recently, it was confirmed that GM Kevin Colbert had met with Howell during the season on campus. Now Pittsburgh will give him the coveted formal sit-down meeting with their brass during Senior Bowl week.

This is a big indicator that the Steelers have a legitimate interest in Howell, and it’s not hard to see why. Howell is the youngest quarterback of the group and he has impressive tools to work with in his big arm, good velocity, and plus mobility.

The meeting with the Steelers brass and Howell could prove to be the first of several this offseason, and he seems like a player who checks nearly every box they look for in a first-round pick (with the exception of falling below their usual height threshold at quarterback).

Howell could continue to improve his stock with a strong performance at the Senior Bowl, but he’s a player who is certainly on the radar with the 20th pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.

The Steelers have met with numerous players at other positions as well, but most of them have been projected day-two or day-three picks. As of now, all eyes are on Pittsburgh’s visits at the quarterback position.
