Steelers OG Kevin Dotson

Here’s a name that has gotten lost in the conversation recently. After a very impressive rookie season, Steelers fans had high hopes for Kevin Dotson in 2021, but the coaching staff didn’t seem to be as high on him, for some reason or another.

During the preseason, Dotson started off with the second team while nursing his way to full health, but was named a starter to begin the season. Dotson started at left guar for roughly half a season in 2021 but landed on IR with a high ankle sprain in Week 10 against the Detroit Lions. Towards the end of the season, Dotson was eligible to return to practice but never made it back to the field in time.

Moving forward, it’s hard to project what Dotson’s career will look like, and much of this depends on the level of confidence the team has in him. As a former fourth-round draft pick, his job as a starter isn’t guaranteed, and he needs to have an impressive season in order to make the Steelers believe that he is the future of the guard position in Pittsburgh.

Dotson wasn’t overly impressive in 2021, but this might have had something to do with being wedged between two rookies on both sides of him. This will certainly be a make-or-break year for Kevin Dotson.
