2. Steelers should consider OG Zion Johnson

The 2022 NFL Draft is pretty strong across the offensive line early on, but most of the top prospects this year are underclassmen; thus they didn’t perform at the Senior Bowl. Overall, the performances by the OL in mobile haven’t been spectacular like they were last year with players like Creed Humphrey, Dillon Radunz, and Quin Meinerz. However, one player has stood above the rest.

Zion Johnson is a senior from Boston College who has good size (6’2 1/2”, 314 lbs) and excellent length at offensive guard. In addition, Johnson has played with both power and quickness and has done a better job than anyone at the Senior Bowl of keeping his man in front of him. Johnson has also had some really impressive blocks when out in space.

Prior to entering mobile for Senior Bowl week, many viewed Zion Johnson as a second-round prospect. However, he has certainly elevated his status since then. While his Senior Bowl tape isn’t as strong as Creed Humphrey’s last year, he’s more versatile and can play multiple positions across the offensive line.

The Steelers had a meeting with Zion at the Senior Bowl, and he’s a player who could be on their radar with the 20th overall pick. Johnson is a solid football player who has the skillset and refinement to be a 10-year starter in the NFL with Pro Bowl upside.
