Maybe they don’t view anyone this year as their Franchise QB

Obviously, it is still really early in the draft process, and there will be a lot more clarity as the offseason goes along. However, it is no secret that this isn’t a great quarterback class compared to those in recent years.

Is it possible that at least one or more quarterbacks in this class are a franchise quarterback in the NFL, absolutely it is. But if the Steelers don’t view any of the players from this year’s class as their guy, they should not waste a pick on them just because they need a quarterback. Instead, if they don’t view any of these guys as a long-term answer they would be better suited filling their other holes now while waiting until next year for the guy that they view as their option.

There is also a chance that the Steelers view one or two options as Franchise quarterbacks, but that those options will be gone by the time they pick. If that is the case, for players such as Kenny Pickett, Malik Willis, or Matt Corral, the Steelers have a decision to make, is the price it would take to trade up worth going up to get them. And if they determine that it isn’t, then they absolutely should wait until next year, and shouldn’t just settle for whatever quarterback is there.

While a trade-up could happen this year, unless they view the guy they’re going up to get as an absolute game-changer, then it may not be worth going up to get them. This team already is missing a few picks and has several holes to fill, so they can’t go and trade picks away unless they are getting a legitimate stud in return.
