Mike Tomlin is a coach that players love to work with. Here are five free agents who could join the Steelers in 2022 because of their head coach.

For the first time in years, the Pittsburgh Steelers have a great deal of cap space entering the offseason. While some of this is going to go rather quickly if they get extensions worked out for players like Minkah Fitzpatrick and Ahkello Witherspoon, there should be plenty left over to afford a few high-profile names in free agency.

Mike Tomlin is one of the most influential coaches in the NFL, and his players have expressed countless times how much they love playing for him. There are some free agents who have had some sort of connection to Tomlin in the past and could be open to coming to Pittsburgh. Here are five players who would love to play for Tomlin in 2022:

LB Rashaan Evans, Titans

The Steelers and linebacker Rashaan Evans are quite familiar with each other. During the pre-draft process back in 2018, Mike Tomlin and Pittsburgh’s brass had met with Evans, and he was in contention to be their first-round pick. In fact, there were reports that Evans was going to be the selection here if the Titans had not taken him just 6 picks earlier.

After a productive four-year stint within Tennesee, the two sides may have an opportunity to play out what would have been if Evans decides to join the Steelers. For Pittsburgh, Evans would be the full-time starter alongside Devin Bush, as Joe Schobert is almost certain to get released this offseason and Robert Spillane is an unrestricted free agent.

Evans had decent success with the Titans, but the Steelers have a rich history of linebackers. I am confident that Evans would love the chance to play on Mike Tomlin’s defense that already has three former All-Pro players at their arsenal.
