Steelers mock draft: Pittsburgh lands a fan favorite and builds trenches
By Tommy Jaggi
Steelers mock draft round 7 (via Jets): WR Tre Turner
Not to be confused with the Steelers offensive lineman, Tre Turner is a wide receiver from Virginia Tech with good enough size and traits to stick on an NFL roster. Listed at 6’2” and 190 pounds, Turner is a deep threat who averaged 17.1 yards per attempt over his four-year career.
For the Steelers, Turner could be a versatile backup who could replace James Washington in 2022. He may not ever be starter material, but he could contribute right away on special teams.
Steelers mock draft round 7: LB Joshua Ross
The last Michigan linebacker the Steelers drafted hasn’t panned out so well thus far. Perhaps they’ll have better luck this time around. Potentially busting on Devin Bush isn’t going to scare Mke Tomlin away from one of his favorite football programs either.
Joshua Ross is a much bigger linebacker who excels at coming downhill. However, there aren’t any spectacular traits to make him anything more than a backup and special teamer at the next level. Still, if they cut Joe Schobert and lose Robert Spillane this offseason, Ross makes a ton of sense with Pittsburgh’s final selection in the 2022 NFL Draft.
The Steelers have a plethora of needs to fill, where they go early on could dictate their decisions for the remainder of the draft. These are all players who could potentially be on their radar this offseason. I’ll be interested to see which ones Pittsburgh’s brass will meet with during the pre-draft process.
