The Pittsburgh Steelers are eyeing the quarterback position. Here are the three best scenarios to land their franchise passer in the 2022 NFL Draft.

At least between Steelers fans and the NFL Draft media, it’s clear that all eyes are on the quarterback position for Pittsburgh this offseason. With Ben Roethlisberger’s retirement, Mason Rudolph is technically the only quarterback under contract for the 2022 season, and this team is clearly in need of an upgrade.

The Rooney’s have always been an advocate of finding talent through the NFL Draft, and this is the route I would assume they will go once again. That decision could come as early as this April, as Pittsburgh’s brass has been busy scouting the 2022 quarterback class.

Unfortunately, this team has a plethora of needs and not enough draft capital to fill them all. Because of this, trading up for a QB seems less than ideal. Here are the three best scenarios for the Steelers involving drafting a quarterback in the 2022 NFL Draft:

Steelers trade back, draft Matt Corral and pick up thrid-round pick

There’s no guarantee that Matt Corral makes it to the Steelers pick. After stringing together two very respectable seasons in the SEC, Corral will be on the radar of several teams before the Steelers are on the clock.

However, with 4-5 quarterbacks all in the same tier this year, it will come down to preference, and some teams could flag Corral for character concerns. If this proves to be the case, perhaps the Steelers could scoot back several spots in the NFL Draft and pick up an additional third-round pick.

The teams drafting immediately after the Steelers are the Patriots, Raiders, Cardinals, Cowboys, Bills, and Titans — none of which will be looking to draft a QB. If there is a team wanting to move up to grab a player they are in love with, Pittsburgh could trade back 4-5 spots and still get their franchise quarterback.
