Alcoa
Alcoa is another Pittsburgh-based company that certainly could be interested in getting the naming rights. Considering the Steelers are synonymous with the steel industry having the 6th largest aluminum producer acquire naming rights does seem a little wimpy. However, if U.S. Steel does not pursue the naming rights, Alcoa could be in a good position to get its name on the stadium.
Giant Eagle
Ok, this name has not been thrown around in the suggestion box; however, it would be one in consideration if they are interested in putting their name on the stadium. Next to Highmark, they are probably the largest or one of the top five largest advertisers during Steeler’s games.
Plus, they get their name thrown out every time they enter the red zone. On all radio broadcasts, when the Steelers enter the redzone, Bill Hillgrove says, “The Steelers have entered the Heinz Redzone, and you can get yourself some thick and rich Heinz ketchup at your local Giant Eagle.”
Ok, it may be hard to keep that exact advertising slogan if Heinz does not re-ink a deal. However, some advertising genius could work something similar, or perhaps Heinz still allows the Steelers to promote Heinz Ketchup when they enter the redzone, at least.
Will they pursue the naming rights? There hasn’t been much indicating they are, at least not yet anyway, but one would have to think it’s something they would almost have to consider in some capacity.
